Relying on God

Devotional reading today was so very appropriate for me. I hope that by sharing, you will be blessed by the devotional as well. Looking at Matthew 14:13-21, feeding of the 5000, (I know, I am two weeks behind on my devotional reading from this book, that's just how it goes sometimes LOL). (from Finding God in the Meager, Travis Tamerius, pastor, Christ Our King Presbyterian Church, Columbia, MO, The Upper Room Disciplines 2008)

"Throughout our entire lives we come face-to-face with our limitions. No sooner do we arrive on the scene than we are sized up and sorted out." Oh, How very much I feel that! Not that anyone is scrutinizing me; only I scrutinize, only I compare and feel that I fail, only I am my own harshest judge.

"Where do you find yourself 'not enough'? Where do you feel limited? Limited by circumstance, by opportunity, by the hurts and mistakes of the past? Recognize that God is able to feed multitudes with all that seems meager and insufficient in your life."

I am reminded of a professor's comment that we, by virtue of our calling, are already authorized, we are exactly what God wants, and we can go forward with confidence. I take hold of that when I find myself feeling inadequate; I am a daughter of God, God will work in me, and God will work through me.

The task I have at hand is to allow myself to be open to God, to be available to God, to be that conduit, vessel, whatever term one wants to use, so that God can work.

And so, I pray this prayer from Pastor Tamerius' devotion:
"God, give me enough faith to trust that you are able to do abundantly more than I can ask or think, according to your power that is at work within me. Amen."
