There is an atmosphere of "let's try it!" whether 'whatever' has been tried before or not. God has blessed us with many many gifts, some of which we actually use. It's kinda like the brain; we don't use our brains to their full capacity - in fact, we use a very small percentage of our brain's capabilities. I think in some ways that is true of the gifts God has blessed us with. So, when there is an opportunity to "try it", "it" helps us to grow in our spiritual gifts and to discern whether what we think is a gift really is. I mean, sometimes, we want so much to do something or be like someone, that we think it's really possible. But we find it's not a gift. There is no failure in having tried and discovering that "it's" not for us.
How wonderful that we are able to "try things on" to see whether they fit or not. How wonderful to be accepted as we discover our potential. How wonderful it is to be lovingly reminded that "it" isn't working.
You know, God created order out of chaos. So what if we are a little chaotic sometimes? God will work in and through that chaos, bringing order to our lives. I spose it does mean listening to God, however, and bringing ourselves under God's authority. But that's not something to fear; rather, let's embrace our diversity, our uniqueness, our gifts, our trying, and particularly embrace God as we "try things on."
